MAINTENANCE
Vehicles equipped with the IMS Guardian™ system should have the MCD sensor inspected as part of every oil service. If metal debris is present in the magnet chamber, it should be photographed for future reference and the time frame and mileage since the last oil service noted. The MCD should then be cleaned of all debris. Leaving the debris in place can result in a false IMS warning due to normal long-term accumulation of ferrous materials. If the IMS Bearing is indeed, beginning to fail, it will expel more than enough ferrous material in a short amount of time to activate the IMS Guardian's alert system.
